Job Objective:

Under supervision of the museum director, with assistance from other museum staff, the intern will learn and complete steps for processing incoming donations and photographing/digitizing, storing, and cataloging accessioned materials.

Essential Functions:

  1. Document incoming donations by completing Temporary Custody agreements and creating temporary storage for incoming donations.

  2. Prepare and lead collections review process for Collections Review Committee

  3. Return/Dispose materials not accepted for collection as approved by the

    committee.

  4. Complete and send Deed of Gift documentation for materials accepted into the

    collection.

  5. Photograph or scan collection materials as appropriate.

  6. Enter descriptive information about materials into PastPerfect collections

    management database.

  7. Create and mark objects with identification numbers.

  8. Select storage location and create appropriate housing for collection materials.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

The requirements listed below are representative of the minimal education, experience, skills, and/or abilities required for this position.

Education & Certification:
• High school diploma.
• Current or recent undergraduate or graduate in Museum Studies, History,

Archives or similar field of study preferred.

Skills:
• Professional etiquette
• Initiative
• Group/teamwork skills in a spirit of cooperation and Christian service • Able to speak, read, and write English in a manner that is sufficient for

effective communication with supervisors, employees, beneficiaries and

customers; and to perform the requirements of this internship.
• Working Knowledge of Microsoft Office 365, PastPerfect, Adobe Photoshop,

and PastPerfect
• Understanding of museum artifact handling and cataloguing procedures is

beneficial but not required
• Understanding of museum ethics and practices is beneficial but not required

Work is performed in a typical office environment. This is a full-time temporary position without benefits. The intern is expected to complete 362.5 hours of work within 90 calendar days. Office hours are Monday-Friday 8:00 am to 4:00 pm. Workday is 7.25 hours long with 45-minute unpaid lunch break. This is an on-site position.
