OVERVIEW
The Curatorial Assistant assists assigned Curators in research on and organization of exhibitions, tracks exhibition timelines, provides exhibition budget support, and develops exhibition team meeting agendas and recaps.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Conduct general research on artists and special projects as assigned.
- Provide accurate and timely reports on exhibition timeline and budget.
- Compile informational packets on traveling exhibitions, bibliographies, and photographic materials for catalogue preparation.
- Draft wall texts, reports, and presentations.
- Prepare, coordinate, and monitor loan forms.
- Create exhibition checklists and monitor deadlines and deliverables.
- Book artist and curator travel and accommodation as required.
- Prepare meeting agendas for Exhibition team meetings and provide meeting recaps.
- Assist with organization of Committee meetings, including preparing preliminary materials, researching and writing analyses of proposed acquisitions and gifts, taking minutes, and following up on action items as necessary.
- Assist with management of and periodically participate in curation of smaller MCA exhibitions.
- Maintain departmental artists’ files.
QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- MA or MFA in Art History, Art, Curatorial Studies or Museum Studies, or equivalent experience.
- One year museum experience and/or research position at college or university level.
- Effective organizational, follow through, and written and verbal communication skills with attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently with minimum supervision.
- Ability to thrive in an open and team-oriented environment.
- Ability to quickly take on new projects and assignments without compromising the quality of routine work and while balancing long term projects.
- Ability to maintain a strict level of discretion, judgment, tact, and diplomacy in all matters.
- Ability to work professionally and effectively with a variety of clients and stakeholders.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365.
- Ability to perform occasional light lifting.
- General mobility throughout the museum.
This is a full-time position, with a Monday - Friday 9a-5p schedule that may occasionally include evening and weekend availability as required to fulfill responsibilities and for related museum activities.
