Education Assistant Manager

Salary: $45,000.00 - $45,000.00 Annually

The Education Assistant Manager is responsible for ensuring a quality visitor experience in the museum program and exhibit areas, teaches museum workshops to school groups and childcare groups, and develops and trains staff on age-appropriate program activities. Additionally, this role assists with managerial responsibilities for Education Specialists I and II, Art Studio Facilitators, and Play Facilitators.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop and prepare early childhood educational programming, following KCM established lesson plan templates, Illinois Early Learning and Development Standards, Common Core Standards, and Next Generation Science Standards
  • Research, plan, develop, and monitor written materials including lesson plans, program activities, workshop materials and training manuals and work with Education Team in the development of educational materials
  • Schedule, plan, and facilitate group activities, conduct virtual, focused field trips, and professional development workshops and support other Museum education programming and activities 
  • Observe facilitation of Museum’s public program activities, including Tech Play Lab, Science Sleuths, Tinkering Tuesdays, Art Studio, and Kitchen Creations to ensure developmentally best practices 
  • Work with Manager of Education to schedule, plan, and conduct Museum’s s education grant programs 
  • Engage visitors through developmentally appropriate practices to enhance exhibit experiences

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist with training, managing, and mentoring Level I and II Education Specialists, and Art Studio Facilitators
  • Assist with managing staff and program schedules/ inter-department calendars
  • Oversee volunteer and support staff/interns

 

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Maintain storage and prep areas
  • Develop evaluation tools for programs to assess effectiveness and track program evaluations
  • Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned

 

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE THE FOLLOWING:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education or related field; Master’s degree preferred
  • IL Type 04 Certification preferred 
  • Managerial experience, a plus
  • At least 2 years professional development experience, presenting and or / facilitating professional development workshops for early childhood educators
  • A minimum of 4 years’ demonstrated experience in an early childhood education setting (PreK – grade 3) or children’s museum setting
  • Bilingual in Spanish, a plus 
  • Experience working with and/or developing STEAM programs
  • Proficiency in office technology and software (Microsoft Office suite)
  • Exceptional oral, written and presentation communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills with ability to manage deadlines and prioritize workload to meet business needs 
  • Friendly demeanor and ability to work with individuals of all levels of an organization
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively, demonstrating success in fostering interdepartmental relationships
  • Flexible and adaptable to a variety of work-related situations  

 

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Valid driver’s license, own vehicle, and good driving record
  • Flexibility with work schedule, as necessary, to support weekend scheduling and/or evening activities

Customary office-related activities: standing, walking, sitting, bending
