Position Summary:

The Education Assistant plays a vital role in supporting the Museum’s mission by facilitating engaging, educational experiences for diverse audiences. This position is responsible for leading and booking Museum tours, coordinating outreach efforts, training staff and volunteers, and assisting with both artistic and educational programming. The ideal candidate is an enthusiastic communicator and educator with a passion for public engagement and learning. The Education Assistant reports to the Director of Museum Operations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct Museum Tours & Educational Activities
  • Lead tours for school groups, public visitors, and special interest audiences, tailoring content to suit various age groups and learning styles.
  • Book and Schedule Tours
  • Manage tour bookings and logistics, maintain accurate calendars and communication with visitors and group organizers.
  • Train Staff and Volunteers
  • Develop and facilitate training sessions for tour guides, volunteers, and front-of-house staff to ensure high-quality educational delivery.
  • Community Outreach
  • Build and maintain relationships with local schools, community groups, and businesses to promote educational offerings and increase tour bookings.
  • Support Programming
  • Assist with the development, planning, and implementation of artistic and educational programming, including workshops, exhibitions, and public events.
  • Supervise Education Intern
  • Provide guidance, support, and mentorship to the education intern, including delegating tasks, reviewing work, and facilitating professional development opportunities.
  • Front Desk check out and other duties as needed
  • Excellent customer service, motivation to complete tasks and goals, and ensure an overall welcoming visitor experience.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Museum Studies, Art History, Public History, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
  • Prior experience in museum education, public programming, or teaching
  • Strong public speaking and communication skills
  • Experience working with diverse audiences
  • Organizational and time management skills, with an ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Collaborative team player with the ability to work independently
  • Familiarity with principles of inclusive and accessible education is a plus
  • Bilingual or multilingual abilities are a plus
  • Goal oriented; team player; works well under pressure
  • Evening and weekend hours as needed
