The grant funded Collection Consultant will be part of the DeKalb County History Center team and will be responsible for increasing access and intellectual control of the objects/3D collection and archives. The consultant will work with the Archival Specialist/Joiner History Room Director and Executive Director.

The project assessment will focus on practical and strategic collections work related to the care and management of the History Center’s collections based on professional practices and standards.

Purpose of this project is to:

  • Improve collection access and organization.
  • Stream-line accession process for volunteers.
  • Identify long-term collections management issues.
  • Develop/review/revise collections policies and procedures.
  • Assess collection supplies.

Required Qualifications

  • Knowledge and experience with Past Perfect.
  • Good organizational skills, excellent interpersonal skills, and the ability to work independently are crucial.
  • Awareness and interest in current developments of trends and emerging technologies in the field of archives, collections, and records management.
  • Comfort taking the initiative in new settings and knowing when to ask adept questions.

Responsibilities will include:

  1. Helping to bring collection storage and procedures to professional standards.
  2. Providing recommendations for current storage arrangements (including both archival and 3-D collection).
  3. Organizing incoming collections and reviewing collection intake process – from donor acceptance to final record entry.
  4. Writing/reviewing policies and plans.
  5. Identifying long-term collections stewardship issues.
  6. Evaluating need for off-site storage items.

Hours - Average ten hours a week


Pay rate $20-$25 to be completed by December 15, 2026


It is understood by the parties that is an independent contractor position, the consultant is not an employee of the DeKalb County History Center. The Contractor will report all work to the Executive Director. DCHC does not provide fringe benefits, including health insurance, paid vacation, or any other employee benefits.
