The Camp Support Leader is responsible for assisting the Camp Supervisors in the programming and supervision of camp participants needing alternative activities or breaks from regular camp programming and assisting with the operation of specialty camps as time permits. Responsible for providing a safe, organized, age-appropriate camp experience.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Required to attend training sessions before camp begins as well as scheduled training sessions and meetings during the camp season. In the absence of the Camp Supervisor, acts as Camp Director designee.
  • Responsible for assisting the Supervisor with the preparation of weekly camp paperwork, parent communication, orientation of new contractual camp staff, leadership of daily activities, and maintenance and inventory of all necessary camp supplies and equipment.
  • Plans and leads age-appropriate alternative activities for campers needing breaks from regular camp activities.
  • May be required to work one-on-one with select campers or camps depending on the needs of the week’s specialty camps.
  • Assures the safety of all campers by monitoring camp activities throughout the program.
  • Responsible for alerting the director or camp supervisor of any unsafe or suspicious situations that may arise, which may include taking immediate appropriateaction to assure the safety of program participants.
  • Assures that the camp site is left in a clean and orderly condition at the conclusion of the camp day.
  • Must be available to work all of camp weeks 1-3 and 5-8. No work Juneteenth and the week of June 29-July 3.
  • Responsible for maintaining accurate records and reports.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

OTHER DUTIES

 

Depending on the focus of the camp, Camp Support Leader may have other duties assigned. Adheres to and actively enforces the safety responsibilities and safety procedures as outlined in the District's Safety Manual, and overall risk management program.

 
** This job falls in paygrade PT5. The target hiring range for this position is $17 - $18 depending on qualifications.

Education: Must be at least 18 years of age and possess high school diploma or equivalent G.E.D. Prefer individual with, or pursuing a degree in the Parks and Recreation, Education, or related field.

Experience: Must have prior experience leading campers or groups of school-aged children. Depending on the camp assigned to work, the following may be required: Specialty Camps: Prior experience working with high-energy children aged 5-11 required. Interest or skill in chess and/or STEM fields preferred.

Certifications: Must be able to obtain and keep current First Aid, CPR, and AED certifications.
