Educational background in Visual Arts, Art History, Museum Studies, or a closely related field; graduate students with relevant professional or academic experience are encouraged to apply.

Job Summary
The Part-Time Art Collection Coordinator is responsible for locating, organizing, cataloging, and curating Morton College’s permanent art collection currently housed in storage and throughout campus. Working collaboratively with the Art Department and the Dean’s Office, the Coordinator identifies appropriate display locations, supports gallery lighting installation, and oversees the safe handling, installation, and preservation of artwork. This position offers flexible scheduling, with occasional adjusted hours to accommodate exhibition installations, campus events, or special projects.
Specific Job Duties
Collection Management & Cataloging
Locate, identify, and assess artworks from Morton College’s permanent art collection stored on campus or displayed in various locations.
Catalog and document each artwork, including photography, descriptive information, artist details, condition assessments, and digital record management.
Maintain accurate, up-to-date records of the art collection, including inventory status and the placement or relocation of artworks.
Exhibition Planning & Installation
Collaborate with the Art Department and the Dean’s Office to determine appropriate, meaningful, and accessible display locations across campus.
Plan and implement artwork installations, including layout, mounting, labeling, and coordination with Facilities staff as needed.
Install, adjust, and maintain gallery lighting to ensure proper illumination and presentation of displayed artworks.
Supervision & Coordination
Supervise and direct a part-time student aide, delegating tasks related to cataloging, artwork handling, installation, and documentation.
Communicate effectively with faculty, staff, the Dean’s Office, and Facilities to coordinate installation logistics, timelines, and display decisions.
Documentation & Reporting
Prepare written reports documenting cataloging progress, installation plans, condition assessments, and related project updates.
Art Handling, Safety & Preservation · Adhere to best practices for artwork handling, safety protocols, and preservation standards throughout all phases of work.
Other Duties
Assist with the preparation and support of exhibitions, events, and campus displays associated with the Art Department and Arts & Humanities programs.
Contribute to the development and refinement of long-term collection management procedures, guidelines, and best practices.
Support the reorganization and maintenance of artwork storage areas to improve accessibility, organization, and safety.
Participate in meetings with faculty, staff, or committees related to campus art initiatives and planning efforts.
Train and support the student aide in safe artwork handling procedures, documentation methods, and installation assistance.
Maintain and track inventory of hanging hardware, tools, lighting accessories, and other exhibition and installation materials.
Perform general clerical and administrative tasks related to cataloging, documentation, scheduling, and communication.
