Museum Tour Guide & Operations Assistant (Full-Time) Funk Prairie Home Museum | Near Bloomington, IL

The Funk Prairie Home Museum is seeking a full-time employee for a dynamic role that includes leading tours, maintaining the grounds, working in archives, and supporting social media.

This is not your typical job. One day you might be leading a tour through a historic home, the next you could be working in the garden, organizing historical archives, or helping grow our social media presence.

About the RoleThis position is ideal for someone who is outgoing, reliable, and takes pride in both presentation and detail. You will lead tours, assist with archives, help maintain the museum grounds, and support social media efforts.

Paid training will be provided to learn and confidently deliver our three tours: the Funk Prairie Home, the Gem & Mineral Museum, and the Barn & Horse Drawn Farming tour.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead engaging and informative tours for groups ranging from 1 to 25 visitors
• Learn, memorize, and deliver three guided tours (Funk Prairie Home, Gem & Mineral Museum, and Barn & Horse Drawn Farming) in a polished and engaging manner
• Assist with organizing and maintaining historical archives using PastPerfect 5
• Maintain and care for museum grounds and garden areas
• Support and help manage social media content and presence
• Adapt communication style to a wide range of audiences

Qualifications

• Strong public speaking and communication skills
• Excellent grammar and professionalism
• Comfortable with computers and willingness to learn archival software (PastPerfect 5 experience is a plus)
• Willingness to work outdoors and assist with garden/grounds upkeep
• Interest in social media and content creation is a plus
• Detail-oriented, reliable, and self-motivated
• Neat, polished, and professional appearance
