2026 Summer Art Camp Lead Instructor

The Elmhurst Art Museum seeks teaching artists or art educators for seasonal, part-time instruction in our exciting youth camps for ages 5-12 year olds. This is a terrific opportunity for dynamic, high-energy applicants with experience in education, visual art, or museum work. This position is contract-based with an hourly rate of $22/hr.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in visual arts, art education, museum education, or related field preferred; individuals in the process of completing their degree in a related field will be considered.
  • Prior experience working with children in formal or informal educational settings
  • Knowledge of multiple 2-D and 3-D art mediums and general studio practices
  • Ability to lead, collaborate with, and give direction to an assistant instructor
  • A prompt, professional, and collaborative manner
  • Availability on all of the following dates:
  • Monday - Fridays, June 1 - August 7 from 8:30am-3:30pm
  • No camp on June 19 or July 3
  • Planning, preparation, and team staff meeting before June 1, date TBD.
  • CPR and First Aid Certification preferred
  • Background check prior to the start of the contract are required.

Duties:

  • Develop a mixed media visual arts curriculum for children ages 5-12.
  • Collaborate with Manager of Education to complete supply requests and curriculum forms aligned with pre-determined deadlines and budget.
  • Facilitate and execute weeklong hands-on instruction, engaging campers with fun and creative projects through a variety of media
  • Supervise campers and maintain a safe, positive, and inclusive environment at camp
  • Direct and guide assistant instructor to execute art and other camp activities
  • Prepare and organize art materials
  • Maintain a clean and organized classroom
  • Display a positive and respectful attitude while acting as a role model
  • Interact with campers and adults in a professional and courteous manner
  • Communicate effectively and show integrity as a museum representative
  • Follow procedures and expectations as outlined by the Manager of Education
  • Other duties as assigned
