The Play Facilitator supports an educational, safe and fun visitor experience through engagement within museum exhibits and common areas, to support opportunities of play. The Play Facilitator works directly with education team in daily care and maintenance of butterflies and butterfly habitat, museum exhibit experiences, planned and impromptu learning activities with young visitors and adults.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities Include:
- Daily care of butterflies in enclosed exhibit, also to include caterpillar and pupae care
- Encourage patron participation in exhibits through age-appropriate interactions
- Assist with facilitation of programming offerings during summer months
- Model positive, educational, creative, and respectful ways to interact with children and their caregivers through play
- Assist with set and reset exhibit areas throughout the Museum’s operational hours
- Participate in creating a physical environment that promotes play, learning and fun through assisting with Exhibit and Education inventory
- Attend monthly, quarterly and annual Museum trainings and meetings, as needed
- Support team members with a positive and collaborative attitude
- Perform other duties and special projects, as assigned
The successful candidate will possess the following:
- College coursework in early childhood education, museum studies or related field
- Experience working with children, preferably in a museum or classroom setting
- Proficient facilitator with strong interpersonal skills
- Ability to learn Early Childhood Education content as it relates to Museum exhibits programming, and guest experiences
- Ability to engage in age-appropriate, culturally respectful, and individually meaningful interaction
- Must have flexibility with work schedule, as necessary, to support weekend scheduling and/or evening activities
Physical Activities include:
- Customary office-related activities: standing, walking, sitting, bending
- Moderate lifting (up to 15 pounds).
