DUTIES: Under the supervision of the Visitor and Member Engagement Manager, the PlayHouse Admissions and Retail Attendant will be responsible for:
- Open and close Welcome Desk computer systems according to defined procedures.
- Perform cashier duties including handling cash, check, and charge transactions.
- Promote and sell PlayHouse Children’s Museum admissions, memberships, and programs.
- Clean and maintain an organized and well-stocked front desk area and assist in exhibition cleaning and organizing on a daily basis. Perform spot cleaning in other areas of the museum as needed.
- Interact with museum visitors by answering questions about the Peoria PlayHouse Museum, Peoria Zoo, and Luthy Botanical Gardens programs and ticket options.
- Interact with the general public and privately booked groups, school groups, and birthday parties and ensure an excellent experience for all visitors.
- Light clerical work: answering and directing phone calls, data entry, other duties as assigned.
- Check in and direct guests for museum workshops and programs.
- Manage lost and found area.
- Attend all staff meeting and trainings as required.
- Report all visitor comments, complaints, and trends to Operations Manager.
- Sell and stock museum shop merchandise. Ensure shop items are displayed in an organized and appealing manner. Notify supervisor when stock inventory is low.

- Performing all other duties as assigned.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The work requires periodic physical exertion in handling supplies, equipment, and materials typical of the hospitality industry. Prolonged standing, bending, stooping and ability to lift and carry up to 40 pounds are required on a periodic basis. Must have the ability to manipulate keyboard, phone, and cash machines. Must be able to bend at waist and knees in order to file and stock. The indoor work environment is adequately lighted, heated, and ventilated. Periodic outdoor work will expose the incumbent to a wide range of weather patterns and environmental surroundings.
Education: High school degree/GED required. Some college preferred. Will accept a combination of education and experience if it is closely related to job skills needed for the position.
Experience: Requires a minimum of one year experience in a customer service role, ideally a museum or other visitor attraction setting.
Knowledge and Ability:
- Must have excellent customer service, problem solving, and organizational skills.
- Must have experience or interest in working with children and families in a highly diverse informal education setting.
- Practical understanding of ages and stages of child development.
- Knowledge of computers and phones as needed for office work, including knowledge of Microsoft Office.
- Ability to maintain focus and professional demeanor in a highly demanding atmosphere.
- Ability to contribute to an atmosphere of teamwork and positive energy among staff and volunteers.
- Ability to communicate clearly with others in person and over the phone.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously with a minimal degree of supervisory oversight.
- Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with co-workers and the general public.
- Ability to be professional, respectful, accountable, innovative, to follow safety procedures, and be equitable to both internal and external customers.
- Must be able to interact effectively and respectfully with adults as well as children of all ages.

- Available to work days, weekends, and some evenings and holidays.
- Experience working as or with volunteers preferred.
