Forest Park Nature Center Host

Duties: Under the supervision of the Chief Naturalist, the Nature Center Host is responsible for:

• Manage visitor experience by answering questions, handing out maps, and facilitating interactions with museum displays and education animals.
• Answer phones and electronic communications.
• Maintain cleanliness of the museum and gift shop.
• Take reservations and registrations for programming and rentals.
• Handle cash in a retail setting.
• Create displays and contributing to publications.
• Assist with special events, rentals, and programming as needed.
• Follow all safety procedures that pertain to the duties performed; support all aspects of the Park District's safety program.
• All other duties as assigned.

Essential Functions: The work requires some physical exertion in handling supplies, equipment, and materials. Prolonged standing, bending, and stooping, and ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds is required on a periodic basis. The programmed activities involve everyday risks, which require normal safety precautions typical of the recreation industry.

Education: Associates degree in environmental science, education, business, or related field preferred. Relevant experience will be considered as a substitute for education.

Experience: Background or interest in natural history.

Knowledge and Abilities:

• Ability to be professional, respectful, accountable, innovative, to follow safety procedures, and be equitable to both internal and external customers.
• Retail/cash handling experience.
• Ability to use computer systems such as Microsoft Office and registration software.
• Customer service experience.
• Must possess a valid driver’s license.
